MUSIC AND LIFE |

Learning to play a musical instrument at an early age has been shown to be good for a child’s mental and emotional
development.
There may be studies on the effect of lifelong involvement with music but we don’t know of any. However, it is a certainty that the benefits of musical interests follow a person all through their life. Short of playing music and going to live shows, high fidelity in the home offers a meaningful substitute with a nearly inexhaustible variety of musical experiences. At the risk of hyperbole, music can stimulate the brain and lift the soul. The common activity now is to watch television in the evening. For many people this means all evening. This not auger well for a good nights sleep. Playing an hour of music on the other hand, (unless it’s rap) does promote a sound rest. Television rarely engages the brain. In fact, it is known to cause the brain to shut off. Music, not only stimulates mental activity, it activates the emotions in a very positive fashion. Virtually a sauna for the inner being. Listen well, sleep well, think better, live better. Music is deemed to be “a mega-vitamin for the brain” by a number of studies as reported by CNN in this link: www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/06/02/music.therapy/index.html Of course, making it is probably better than listening to it but we do what we can and Newform would argue that listening on an ultra high resolution, low stress system will be a better stimulus than listening on a system with lower fidelity. If we become fixated on the technicalities of music reproduction though, the hobby can become a source of frustration rather than a sink for it. Let’s be frank, high end audio has been the Saudi Arabia of snake oil in the past. Combined with the multitudes of formats and equipment changes, the simple desire to listen to music for several hours a week has been sidetracked into frustrating dead ends of failed formats, incompatibilities and equipment that has not lived up to its breathless reviews. But if you can put the techno frustration behind you, a high end music system can help you live a better life.
