Newform Research Update - May 2003
Lastly, we have lowered the price of admission to true high end sound with the R58 and the R530. We have upped the ante for high end sound and design with the NHB58. And now, we are finally, after many requests, offering kits which will make tweaking our loudspeakers easier.

You asked for it and you are getting it. These external crossover terminal plates will not only accommodate virtually anything you can think of with regard to crossover components but will quickly allow a clean upgrade to active and DSP crossovers and the much ballyhooed "digital chain".

R58 A centre channel that won’t work with tube TVs because it isn’t well magnetically shielded works superbly with everything else. Performance was not sacrificed for shielding. The second best centre channel in the world. Why? Also excellent as surrounds or studio monitors, small room stereo etc. Dual Vifa midbasses and a higher sensitivity neodymium version of the much loved R8 produce a exceedingly musical and dynamic small loudspeaker. We could have gotten more bass by porting but a 50Hz crossover to a sub is probably ideal here.

NHB 58
Not the second best centre channel in the world. Double enclosure, damped inner cabinet no parallel surfaces anti-diffraction shaped exterior. Massively rigid walls.

R530
Neo R8. No parallel surfaces massive cast iron structure 3 types of layered internal damping anti-diffraction exterior acoustic aerodynamics mass, rigidity, damping, acoustic aerodynamics, minimal diffraction, line source, wide dispersion, upgraded crossover, ScanSpeak Revelator W15s dynamics accuracy +/- 1.5dB from xx to 23kHz easy load - even tube friendly 7 ohms minimum, 11ohm Ribbon high sensitivity biwireable, biampable.

R58
The R58 is a very high quality small monitor. It can be used for fine stereo in a small room without a subwoofer or as the mains, surround or center channel in a home theater. As a center channel, (if you really feel you need one) the R58 provides very high fidelity with extremely broad horizontal dispersion. The R58 is not magnetically shielded so floor placement is ideal for tube TVs. Rear projectors, plasma and front projector TVs allow complete flexibility in placement. Its good sensitivity (89dB) combined with its very high impedance (7 ohms DC minimum) and great dynamics allow for very low power tube amps or very powerful conventional amps.

Bryston
There is probably no better respected company in the audio world than Bryston. They have a superlative reputation in both the pro-sound and high end audio industries. Their product support and product reliability are second to none. Performance and value have been the hallmarks of their products. Now with the SST line of amplifiers and their 1.7 Processor, Bryston has stepped onto the top shelf of absolute sonic performance.

If you want top performance in an analog system, Bryston is the easy and almost certainly the best choice.

Superb amps for conventional systems. Buy one component at a time unlike the Tact system where you basically have to go all or nothing.

Tact
The realization of the potential of the complete digital chain that Newform has been touting for so many years. Not cheap but distinctly better than $250,000 analog systems. When you are ready for the most realistic musical performance that technology can deliver in a listening room, the Tact system has to be the choice. Coupled with a pair of R645s, and 2 Tact Spec Newform Attack Subs, the complete system will cost under $22,000 US delivered. Not chump change but a bargain compared to many of the old technology, over priced battleships which have occupied the upper echelons of high end audio in the past.

Now with the near ideal columnar pattern of dispersion of Newform Ribbons and the near(er) perfect digital chain plus room mode correction, new heights of sonic performance have been achieved and as have new lows in the price of admission to the very finest music reproduction systems.

External Crossover plates
Although only about 1 in 6 owners of Newform loudspeakers modifies (or "tweaks") the speakers, there is a huge amount of discussion on the subject. A mini-industry has grown up supplying parts for or performing the modifications as well as using Newform Ribbons in custom designs. Now, modifications can be easily facilitated with these terminal plates and component shelves.

The terminal plates are a fairly massive 1/4" aluminium and have 3 sets of 5 way binding posts, one for each driver. The 2 component shelves of 1/8" aluminium each have a set of 5 way binding posts to allow for biamping.

The terminal plates screw directly onto the back of the speaker enclosures once the standard cup terminal plates have been removed using the same holes.

Analysis Plus internal cabling is soldered to the 3 pairs of binding posts to allow for easy direct hookup to the drivers.

WBT binding post upgrades are available.

R630 and R645 continue as two of the most popular (and most highly modified) loudspeakers in high end audio. With the addition of the R58, NHB58 and R530, complete and very high end music and hometheater systems can now be ideally configured for virtually any room or system.
The Montreal Audio Show
As those familiar with Newform Research know, we don’t go in much for shows. However, there is so much happening with our new models and the digital systems we felt we had to step out and get some public reaction. So, we will have a suite at the Four Points Hotel. One room will be a full Tact system plus a "digital stepping stones" demonstration with the 645s and the other will be Tact and Bryston with the NHB58s. We’ll even have an NHB58 there for you to punch in the side. When we say "rigid cabinet", we mean it!
