Unlike its bigger brother, the Compact midbass enclosure is floor mounted, eliminating the stand. The front baffle is slanted back at 10 degrees to allow the Ribbon and Purifi midbasses to radiate slightly upwards and cover the seated listening ear. This allows the listener to immerse themselves in what Purifi Audio’s Claus Neesgaard describes as the new world of low distortion listening.
Everyone else might use the terms, transparency, soundstaging, dynamics for music painted on a very black canvas. In effect, this is the next step in high resolution audio.
The Last Dance Compact is a very simple 2-way design that effortlessly delivers the transparency of classic large panel Ribbon and Electrostatic speakers in small to moderately large listening rooms.
The Last Dance loudspeaker series benefits from the highest quality electronics but does not demand them to deliver real music. A receiver with good amplifier sections of 60W per channel or greater will provide a superb music experience. The Compact will easily keep up with the dynamic demands of home theatre.
A few technical details:
- The Last Dance Compact uses 4 Purifi Audio 4” drivers in a narrow, sealed enclosure. Given their large excursion and linearity, they have almost as much bottom end capacity as the classic R645v3 with its dual ScanSpeak 7” midbasses.
- The system has a DC resistance of 4.3 Ohms meaning that any amplifier can drive this very stable load.
- Systems can come with external xovers to allow easy conversion to digital crossovers if this is a possibility in the future.
- The Compact is very room correction and bass EQ friendly.
- The finish on the cabinets is utility grade black. Cabinets are made of 18mm void-free plywood and are extensively braced and damped.
- Ribbons are black epoxy powder coated.
Bottom Line
Most pure audio systems will find no need for a subwoofer. For home theatre systems, don’t make a decision on the addition of a subwoofer until the Compacts are well-broken in. Install a pair of The Last Dance Compacts in your home and you will enjoy details and nuances you were previously completely unaware of.
